How To Fix Stress Incontinence and Urge Incontinence

Incontinence simply means that you lack a full and complete voluntary control over your urination. If you have ever unexpectedly peed your pants, even just a little, then you have likely experienced some form of incontinence. If you experience leakage during movements such as running, jumping, sneezing, or even a good laugh (anything that puts pressure on the bladder) you may be suffering from stress incontinence. If you leak when you get the urge to go to the bathroom, you may be suffering from urge incontinence.

If either of these describe you, know that you are not alone!

Many feel that this is something they just have to “deal with” or that after having babies this is normal. You might even be doing the “kegel method” and not seeing any results.

Here are some reasons why your symptoms are persisting longer than they should!

  • You played the “wait and see” approach….and you still have leaking
  • Your were told surgery is the only option
  • People tell you that this is common and something you will have to live with
  • You tried other therapy options in the past that didn’t work
  • You attempted YouTube tutorials for exercises

The great thing is that if we know what you have tried and hasn’t worked, we are one step closer to being able to determine what will work more easily!

  • Now that we know what doesn’t work how do we move forward with helping you get back to your normal life and fix these potentially embarrassing issues ?
  • The first step is to make the decision to seek help. If you have tried any of the above and are not seeing results then it is time to try something else.
The next step is to place yourself in the hands of a pelvic floor expert! You need someone who can properly diagnose and come up with an appropriate plan of care that will guide you to get rid of this once and for all! This is done with a evaluation from a pelvic floor specialist.
  • Lastly, completing the right exercises that target your issues, allow you to achieve your goals, and return to your favorite activities without worry of leakage occurring is key!

"I had constant UTI symptoms and had difficulty controlling my bladder. As a 26-year-old woman with an active lifestyle, I was afraid that this pain would be something I would live with forever. After one session with Dr. Stollman, Lauren, she figured out that most of my pain was caused by a hip misalignment. She was always engaged, asking questions, and reassessing my injury every time I came to see her. After 6 sessions in one month she was able to help me create an individualized stretching/strengthening regimen that I can do anywhere at anytime. I feel more like myself than I have since October and have only her to thank for it. Thanks to Lauren, I feel like I have control of my life again :)"

Incontinence can occur for a number of reasons. Many women are suffering through embarrassing moments or avoiding things they would prefer to be able to do thinking that it will eventually get better, or maybe this is normal. It can be hard to talk about with your significant other, friends, and even your doctor. Many women unnecessarily go through a series of tests or medications to ease the side effects prior to seeking out our help.

It is natural to think that this is your fault or to be scared or concerned. The truth is incontinence, contrary to what people may tell you, is not something you should have to suffer through or live with! It may be getting in the way of your relationships, feeling “like yourself”, or fully enjoying everything you want to do. We hear you and understand you because these are things we have heard from other women just like you and helped guide them get back to a normal life full of enjoyment and fulfillment!

Incontinence is one of the most common things that is treated with pelvic floor therapy. You are not alone. I can tell you with if you have suffered for more than a month the “wait and see” approach will likely not work and could potentially be causing you more harm.

So many women such as yourself suffer from incontinence on a daily basis and it is important that you get the correct diagnosis and care so you can return to a normal life AND your favorite activities without “incidences”.

Women are notorious for taking care of others while not taking care of themselves. For a change let someone else help take care of you. You deserve to be taken care of, and you deserve to live a life without incontinence.

When It Comes To Solving Something Serious Like Incontinence…

You must choose the right provider for your health. If you don’t, you could end up wasting your time while the problem only gets harder and harder to fix

Getting the “least-invasive”, most natural treatment is VITAL to you stopping your incontinence and keeping it from ever coming back.

To do that, you have to not just treat the incontinence, but have a provider who is willing to figure out WHY these issues happened in the first place. That’s when you’ll get a PERMANENT solution to your problems.

At KinetikChain we’ve created a three step process to get rid of your leaking AND making sure it doesn’t come back again.

STEP #1 - WE WANT TO LISTEN TO YOUR STORY

Our medical system is frustrating. You wait weeks, sometimes months, for an appointment, only to get to talk to the doctors for 10 minutes before they have to run to the next patient and you’re left sitting there wondering, “What just happened?”

Even most physical therapy clinics operate this way. They’re not attentive, they’re fast-paced, and your therapist doesn’t have time to actually touch where you hurt.

This is why our first step is to listen to your story.

After working with lots of people with pain and or urinary incontinence, we know that no two people are alike. Each person has a different body, a different history, and different types of pain.

That is why our first step is to have an open conversation and time for you to tell your story. That way we get a deep understanding of what’s going on not just with your body, but also how it’s impacting your life.

STEP #2 - FIND OUT WHY YOUR SYMPTOMS STARTED

Many people have a diagnosis, or medical term for what’s going on with their body. Maybe their doctor gave it to them, maybe tests showed the diagnosis, or maybe you found it online.

You could have been told that your only choice was to rest, avoidance, or pads.

Sometimes, those things bring temporary relief, but they’re not addressing what CAUSED the problem in the first place.
Every person’s cause of pain and or urinary incontinence is different. No one has the exact same problem caused by the exact same thing as another person.

Our goal at KinetikChain is to find that original cause of your pain, so not only does your pain and issues go away, they STAY AWAY!
We understand that you still might be skeptical or unsure if physical therapy is right for you. That’s why we created a FREE Discovery session. (Yes! That means the first session is ON US!)

Our Free Discovery Visit are meant specifically for those people who are skeptical, unsure, or have even been let down in the past. During the Discovery Visit you’ll find out what’s wrong, how long it’s going to take to fix it, and give you peace of mind that your problem can be fixed naturally!

STEP #3 - GET RID OF THE PAIN & KEEP IT FROM COMING BACK

This is when the big transformations occur. We develop a personalized plan that allows you to…

…Get back to exercising without fear of pain and/or urinary incontinence coming back
…Be able to (play with kids, get back to your workouts, be intimate with your spouse without pain)
…Get back to your pre-pregnancy lifestyle you love
….Be active and mobile and keep up with those full of energy kids without fear of having to pay for it later

Our best clients are those who are motivated and ready to win back and take control of their quality of life. (Even if they feel stuck right now!)

Why Do You Work Here?

“KinetikChain fosters an environment of excellence in which I can take the time to understand each person’s story, finding out what matters most in my patient’s life, so that I can provide treatment options and information, and then work efficiently and effectively to get them back to what they love. Their goals are truly my goals, YOUR goals are truly my goals.

I’ve felt the disappointment of not being able to compete due to injuries or pushing through pain just to get through everyday activities and paying for it afterwards, frustrated and uncomfortable. More than that, I also understand the feeling of not knowing what to do or when to address aches and pains; I work to help people better understand their body and condition, healing processes, and movement patterns, so that they can make more informed decisions for their health and help them get back to what they need and love to do.”

In addition to treating sports and typical orthopedic conditions, I choose to specialize in providing care for women’s health and pelvic floor. It took me way too long before I went to seek pelvic floor physical therapy for myself, and I struggled to admit to myself that I should seek help, hoping that everything would just spontaneously get better with time. Once I got the care that I needed, I became inspired to create a new normal of talking about pelvic pain and function, as pelvic health is physical health and mental health. Throughout my physical therapy practice, I have heard so many times “I had to stop [insert favorite activity/sport here] after I had kids because of pelvic pain or leakage” and many women accept this for the rest of their lives, giving up their stress outlet, their enjoyment, their community. My mission is to empower women to challenge this idea, because there are so many things we can do through pelvic floor physical therapy to make real differences to get you back to what you love without fear. Additionally, I have worked with many women who have undergone breast surgeries, including full or partial mastectomies with or without reconstruction, who have experienced chronic significant changes in their function due to scar tissue and tightness, leading to pain or dysfunctions in other areas of the body, making it difficult to “ace” your golf game or even reach up to a high shelf. In learning about their experiences, I have discovered that post-surgical management in this area is significantly lacking, often due to lack of communication or expectations about the significant effects that these surgeries can have on one’s mobility. I work to educate as many people as I can about the importance of seeking care for this so that women, like you, do not have to accept this as a fact of life.

Lauren received her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Saint Louis University in St. Louis, MO. She was born in Denver, grew up in Kansas City, and, like a boomerang, she has returned back to Denver. She loves working with people of all ages and stages, and anyone from super-moms to high level athletes. She believes in building quality relationships with her patients, becoming a teammate and collaborator, to provide them with the best quality of care for their success in achieving their goals.
