Healing Diastasis Recti At KinetikChain Denver, CO

Many of us have heard this term, especially if you have had a baby. Diastasis recti can be an issue whether you have recently had a baby or it’s been several years! It is common for women to think that it will never get better and they have to live with this forever, or that the only fix occurs under the knife during surgery.

Does this sound like you? Don’t worry, you are not alone! Diastasis recti is very in common postpartum but it’s something many health care professionals sweep under the rug. It can be embarrassing, debilitating, and can start to have an affect on your and your family’s everyday life.

I am sure that you have been told by doctors or friends that all you need to do is strengthen your core. While core control is important, you need to make sure that you are doing the correct exercises that are right for you and will not prevent proper healing. You might be trying to get back to your favorite activities but find that you have to modify. Know that modifying is NOT normal and you should not have to modify your activity for the rest of your life.

The exciting aspect is that understanding what methods you've attempted that didn't yield results brings us closer to identifying what will be effective for you when it comes to addressing diastasis recti. This insight accelerates the process of finding the right solution!

Is your diastasis recti hanging around and causing you grief? Here are some common misconceptions about treating diastasis recti:

  • It can be fixed with advice from google alone
  • You should focus on just strengthening the core
  • You should modify all of your favorite activities to prevent pain/it from worsening
  • It will just go away on its own
  • It’s common after a baby so just “deal with it”
  • Just slap on an abdominal binder and that should fix it
  • PT in the past didn’t work so it won’t work with another PT (Note: not all PT’s are the same or treat the same)
  • The doctor told you the only pure fix is surgery

At KinetikChain we’ve created a three step process to help guide you to a long term diastasis recti solution.

When It Comes To Solving Something Serious Like Diastasis Recti…

Womens Health Kintik Chain Denver

Our medical system is frustrating. You wait weeks, sometimes months, for an appointment, only to get to talk to the doctors for 10 minutes before they have to run to the next patient and you’re left sitting there wondering, “What just happened?”

Even most physical therapy clinics operate this way. They’re not attentive, they’re fast-paced, and your therapist doesn’t have time to actually touch with enough detail to figure out what is going on.

This is why our first step is to listen to your story.

After working with lots of people with diastasis recti, we know that no two people are alike. Each person has a different body, a different history, different goals, and different types of struggles.

That is why our first step is to have an open conversation and time for you to tell your story. That way we get a deep understanding of what’s going on not just with your body, but also how it’s impacting your life.

Many people have a diagnosis, or medical term for what’s going on with their body. Maybe their doctor gave it to them, maybe tests showed the diagnosis, or maybe you found it online.

You could have been told that your only choice was to rest, avoidance, surgery, or even just living with it.

Sometimes, those things bring temporary relief, but they’re not addressing what CAUSED the problem in the first place.
Every person’s abdominal separation is different. No one has the exact same problem caused by the exact same thing as another person.

Our goal at KinetikChain is to find the individual reasons for your issues, so not only does your diastasis recti improve, but it allows you to do everything you need to do!
We understand that you still might be skeptical or unsure if our type of physical therapy is right for you. That’s why we created a FREE Discovery session. (Yes! That means the first session is ON US!)

Our Free Discovery Visit is meant specifically for those people who are skeptical, unsure, or have even been let down in the past. During the Discovery Visit you’ll find out what’s wrong, how long it’s going to take to fix it, what we can do to help, what you can do to help, and will give yourself the peace of mind that your problem can be fixed naturally!

About Dr. Lauren Stollman (Women's Health and Pelvic Floor Specialist)

Do You Feel Embarrassment From Leaking Every Time You Cough, Sneeze, Run, Or Jump?
Would You Like To Find Out How You Can Stop Leakage And Get Back To Your Favorite Activities And Feel Like “You” Again?

Why Do You Work Here?

“KinetikChain fosters an environment of excellence in which I can take the time to understand each person’s story, finding out what matters most in my patient’s life, so that I can provide treatment options and information, and then work efficiently and effectively to get them back to what they love. Their goals are truly my goals, YOUR goals are truly my goals.

I’ve felt the disappointment of not being able to compete due to injuries or pushing through pain just to get through everyday activities and paying for it afterwards, frustrated and uncomfortable. More than that, I also understand the feeling of not knowing what to do or when to address aches and pains; I work to help people better understand their body and condition, healing processes, and movement patterns, so that they can make more informed decisions for their health and help them get back to what they need and love to do.”

In addition to treating sports and typical orthopedic conditions, I choose to specialize in providing care for women’s health and pelvic floor. It took me way too long before I went to seek pelvic floor physical therapy for myself, and I struggled to admit to myself that I should seek help, hoping that everything would just spontaneously get better with time. Once I got the care that I needed, I became inspired to create a new normal of talking about pelvic pain and function, as pelvic health is physical health and mental health. Throughout my physical therapy practice, I have heard so many times “I had to stop [insert favorite activity/sport here] after I had kids because of pelvic pain or leakage” and many women accept this for the rest of their lives, giving up their stress outlet, their enjoyment, their community. My mission is to empower women to challenge this idea, because there are so many things we can do through pelvic floor physical therapy to make real differences to get you back to what you love without fear. Additionally, I have worked with many women who have undergone breast surgeries, including full or partial mastectomies with or without reconstruction, who have experienced chronic significant changes in their function due to scar tissue and tightness, leading to pain or dysfunctions in other areas of the body, making it difficult to “ace” your golf game or even reach up to a high shelf. In learning about their experiences, I have discovered that post-surgical management in this area is significantly lacking, often due to lack of communication or expectations about the significant effects that these surgeries can have on one’s mobility. I work to educate as many people as I can about the importance of seeking care for this so that women, like you, do not have to accept this as a fact of life.

Lauren received her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Saint Louis University in St. Louis, MO. She was born in Denver, grew up in Kansas City, and, like a boomerang, she has returned back to Denver. She loves working with people of all ages and stages, and anyone from super-moms to high level athletes. She believes in building quality relationships with her patients, becoming a teammate and collaborator, to provide them with the best quality of care for their success in achieving their goals.
