[FREE Guide] Shows You 7 Ways To Ease Tennis Injury Pain To Help You Live An Active Lifestyle
A Message From Jamie Bovay, Owner & Founder of KinetikChain Physical Therapy
Hi, my name is Dr. Jamie Bovay and welcome to KinetikChain Denver.
No longer acing the competition? Has your tennis game been limited by pain, injury, or achiness/stiffness? If so it is very easy to think that it will go away on it’s own or that it’s “nothing to worry about”. Maybe you are starting to think reluctantly that this pain with tennis is just something you will have to put up with for the rest of your life. That you just won’t be able to play as often or as many games as you’d like.
Injuries, pain, or stiffness with tennis can make it very easy to get frustrated, wondering if you’ll ever be able to play like you used to…
Have you ever felt like this? Well you are not alone – we see people going through this all the time. Actually, we see players struggling with tennis injuries and frustrations at our Denver Cherry Creek clinic every week…
We now know that waiting just a little longer isn’t the answer. With tennis injuries there is no time too soon to start the rehab process.
This is completely the opposite of what most people do or hear, and is why so many people suffering, not playing the way they want, and asking themselves:
“Why Can I STILL Not Play the Way I Would Like To?”…
Most people think, have heard, and have read that after a tennis injury they should just take a few days rest and it will get better. That they will be back to normal “before you know it”. But after that time off and all of those potential matches missed when they get back on the court their old nemesis pain is right there waiting for them. And many times it is worse than before. Many times when you rest you won’t have pain, but when you start hitting the ball again pain and stiffness is still there limiting what you can do and how well you can play.
Does That Sound Like You?
At KinetikChain we also frequently hear that when people go to their Doctors, and get a prescription of rest, pills, and maybe a brace. The doctors clearly aren’t tennis players and don’t seem to understand that time away from tennis is worse than the pain itself. Then they tell you to “come back in a few weeks if it’s not better”. And guess what the next prescription is for.
Yep, the exact same thing, rest, pills, and a brace.
The problem is that when it comes to tennis injuries rarely is complete rest the best advice.
You may be confused and frustrated because you’ve heard lots of conflicting information from a variety of sources and you don’t know what to believe. Likely by now you have even tried several of these ideas and have found out that they don’t work.
Victim vs. Culprit:
Tennis injuries are frequently misunderstood because usually where the pain is coming from, ISN’T the area that needs to be addressed. On top of that if you rest for too long you will lose some of your skills and miss out on great opportunities.
Usually when thinking about the pain we need to think about a victim (pain area) and the culprit (area causing the pain). Usually these are two very different locations in the body. For instance a lack of shoulder control or strength may make you hit a backhand more with your forearms giving you tennis elbow. However, if you only treat the tennis elbow (victim) and not address the route cause of the problem (the shoulder, which is the culprit of the pain) there will only be some relief. Then the pain will come back once you start playing again.
The confusion over what to do makes many people hesitate on making a decision on what to do to help fix their injury and return back to tennis. Even worse, many people just start thinking ‘their days of playing tennis are over’ – or ‘it’s just a normal part of aging’.
