A Message From Jamie Bovay, Owner & Founder of KinetikChain Physical Therapy

Hi, My name is Jamie Bovay and welcome to KinetikChain Denver.

If you’re suffering from annoying and painful skiing or snowboarding injuries, – it’s very easy to think that it’s just a bit of “wear and tear”, or that it’s nothing and it’ll go away on its own.

You may have tried stretching, resting, yoga, massage, foam rolling, heat, ice, maybe even just pushing through it – but it doesn’t seem to be getting any better!

If that’s happening to you, you’re not alone – we hear this type of thing all the time. In fact, skiing and snowboarding related injuries are one of THE most common problems that we see in our Physical Therapy Clinic in Cherry Creek.

And when it comes to struggling with skiing or snowboarding, everybody we see wants to know the answers to these questions:

“What’s causing this?”
Or
“Why am I still suffering with this after putting up with it for so long and why isn’t it getting better?”…
Or
“Can I still ski/board, run, hike, or workout?”

Most people think that when they start getting annoying pain on the hill it’ll eventually go away on it’s own. The fact that you are reading this tells me that didn’t happen.  You have likely tried several methods to get rid of the pain, but then before you know you are avoiding going up and missing powder days left and right. To add insult to injury often it’s even worse than it was when it first came on and now starting to affect other areas of your life as well.

Does That Sound Like You?

Another scenario we see all the time in our physical therapy clinic is when people go to their Doctors, and the Doctor tells them to “rest and try these painkillers” and “come back in 6 weeks if it’s not any better”.  The crazy thing is that when they go back 6 weeks later after that advice didn’t work and looking for new advice they are prescribed even MORE REST and MORE PILLS, and maybe to wait till next season. This approach is so frustrating and not only explains the opioid epidemic, but explains why so many people are still suffering from chronic pain, not getting back to riding when they could be, and avoiding getting back to doing what they love to do.

Has That Ever Happened To You?

You have likely heard different advice by many different people who are all trying to help.  The problem is their advice isn’t working and many times the advice is conflicting with everything else you are reading or hearing.  Maybe you think you have to rest because you think you may be doing real damage, or that you should be doing ‘this exercise’ and ‘that exercise’ to make it better.

It’s very confusing to know exactly what to do – and sometimes that’s just to prevent it from getting worse!

Because of this confusion it’s not uncommon that people put off trying to find a real solution. Worse, many times they may hear incorrect advice, like pain is just “a normal part aging” as if it “has” to be that way, which either frustrates them or gets them down thinking their best days are behind them.

Is This How You Feel Too?

You may think that your only options are massage, yoga, foam rolling, stretching, exercises from youtube, or avoiding riding and changing your exercise to a more gentle approach.  Many of these feel good for a short amount of time only for the pain to return at a later point. That is because they are not getting to the root cause of the problem. This is kind of like all the Texans that ski in camouflage and jeans who buy the best gear to try to cover up that they can’t ski.  It may help a little bit, but it doesn’t get to the route cause of the problem which is they can’t ski.

In the next few minutes you are going to discover how active adults in Denver can get back to hitting the back bowls, jibbing in the park, flying down groomers, and enjoying the amazing feeling of floating on 12+ inches of powder with their friends. .

At this point you may thing avoiding or altering your riding is just something you have to live with..

But secretly you know you would rather zoom past your buddies while crushing a pillow soft line.

We’ve put together this Free Report showing you the 9 Top Tips to Never Miss A Powder Day Because of Pain.

Everyday I work with people in their 30’s through 50’s just like you to find relief and help them to return to the sport they love.  What I can tell you is that yoga, massage, exercises, foam rolling, rest, and avoiding the skiing or boarding are not likely to help.

Why?  These general treatments are only addressing part of the problem.  Similar to how buying nice gear when you can’t ski might help a bit,  but much more needs to be addressed. You need a plan that addresses your issues in your joints, muscles, fascia (skin and connective tissue), nerves, how you run, your pain, how you move independently of running, how to help your stiffness and movement limitations, considers work and exercise modifications, makes you an active participant by giving you specific techniques you can do on your own to improve how you move, and addresses Your challenges to getting back to Your goals.

I know so many people who have just accepted that they can no longer do what they love to do.  Life can be frustrating when you can’t ski/board, enjoy the outdoors, and spend quality time with your friends or family.
