How Where You Live Affects Your Health, Fitness, and Recovery

Listen Now!

JAMIE 0:03

Alright, on today’s episode, we have Denise Johnson, who is the wellness director for X Denver, as well as Expo. And Denise, why don’t you tell everybody what x Denver is.

DENISE  0:15

It’s basically a wellness community. It’s an apartment complex, where we’ll be home building an apartment complex, where we established apartments for everyday life. And then we also offer co living spaces, so you can know who you want to live with, you still have your privacy. On top of that we have state of the art amenities, like a pool house on the roof, a dog park, a state of the art, fully equipped gym as well as a fitness studio. And then we also have a social club lounge and a co working space as well. They have so much to offer.

JAMIE  0:59

Yeah, sounds like so you’re really trying to be that one top one stop shop for everybody, so that they have not only a place to live, but you know, a place to work out and a place to socialize. Why did you think that was so important?

DENISE  1:13

Well, especially coming out of 2020, even though this plan was already established prior to that, but you know, the hard shoe facts came out last year. And just understanding that one social connection and social wellness is a great part of human connection and just human wellness itself. And just being able to offer such amenities that will allow people to focus not only on their body, but also their mind and their spirit will only enhance the community and allow people to continue to better themselves and move forward.

JAMIE  1:45

And how will it extend or help people improve their mind and spirit compared to let’s say if they just lived in an average apartment.

DENISE  1:52

So when you move into an average apartment, you usually get your whatever is where footage bubbles, right? The difference between us and other apartment complexes is the events and the amenities that we offer are very established when it comes to the facility that we’ll be offering, but then our monthly programming will include components of one of the eight wellness dimensions. So we won’t just be focusing on physical wellness, we’ll be incorporating, you know, social wellness components, we’ll be touching on spiritual wellness, or we’ll be offering meditations in our, in our class, our daily class or weekly class offerings. We’ll be offering high Moon Meditation and Spiritual connections, we’ll be offering occupational wellness that allow people to come in and just really connect them be able to figure out if they are in the right space, are they actually giving all that they want in their space, and connect with everyone else in the community and someone else that may be in that same industry and just learn and grow off of each other. So you know, the ability to expand not just for yourself, but also as a community is what our overall goal is.

JAMIE  3:01

Okay, so it sounds like kind of a more holistic approach to wellness, not just fitness, not just nutrition, but kind of a more holistic approach more thorough, and also with a large community focus, it sounds like Absolutely. Cool. And how would you describe extenders wellness program,

DENISE 3:19

exactly what you said, you know, it’s a holistic programming, it’s very robust. Our monthly calendar once we really get open and revved up, it’s going to be expanded exponentially. I’m really excited for the offerings that we have to come especially like our vision board, you know, events in our book clubs, our you know, volunteer opportunities and just our community enhancement opportunities that we’ll be offering our community to allow them not only to you know, bring everything that they have to offer inside the building but also expand it to our local Denver area

JAMIE  3:54

and will when will extend will be opening

DENISE  3:57

we’re anticipating a June opening Okay, nice mill

JAMIE  4:01

summer. And what can members expect from extender studios and their wellness program name image and a couple of classes and things like that? What can they expect like coming into this

DENISE  4:14

so our classes will be offered daily we’re looking at you know, we have two fitness spaces arrives said we have our state of arts fully equipped gym and then we have our spacious fitness we also will be offering classes that aren’t limited to yoga head or guided meditation will be offering opportunities for people to host events and connect with them excuse me one second, I apologize.

JAMIE  4:39

I have to get some doggy wellness classes as well. I apologize. The extent we’re going to allow pets

DENISE  4:58

Yes. So we have a dog park on the route. We do not have any restrictions on breeds right now. So I actually just got my puppy. And that’s why you hear in the background,

JAMIE  5:10

cool. Anything else that may surprise people about anything else that they should know.

DENISE  5:16

I mean, you know, like I said, we’re fully equipped. So we have the gym, we have the rooftop lounge, we’ll have reservable conference rooms, there’s a prep kitchen on property, there are private phone booths, and meeting pods that can be reserved. We have a swimming pool, a 30 person Jacuzzi tub, cocktail pairs, firepits, and amplifier seating and mountain views. So you know, you get the best of both worlds in Denver, ex Denver, because you have the option of city view, or Mountain View. And if you’re on this route, you get them both.

JAMIE  5:54

Nice. That’s awesome. Now, as of recording of this pin COVID pandemic is still going on. Now hopefully by June it’s over. And this really isn’t an issue. But how are you keeping people safe? Right now, because a lot of things you mentioned are very social. And it’s all about social wellness and being part of a community and things like that. But for now, how are you keeping people safe?

DENISE  6:15

So first, our first thing is we employed a professional cleaning staff for both departments and common spaces, and they will be on a frequent cleaning process. And then we will obviously observe local COVID-19 social distancing guidelines by offering our classes pool chairs and lounge and study areas at a first come serve basis.

JAMIE  6:40

And diversionary fitness focused and health focused. Why? Why did extender feel that Denver was a good fit for this model?

DENISE  6:53

I think it’s just because of what you just said, right? It’s a very health focused place. You know, there are a lot of people that are coming into Denver and moving out of other areas because of what it has to offer. It’s four seasons, 303 100 days of sign. And, you know, if we can get in here and you know, connect with people that are already in that mindset of getting better than I feel like we will definitely do better in other markets.

JAMIE  7:18

Sure. And you’re looking to expand this. Absolutely. And just to Denver or nationally, or

DENISE  7:25

The patient will be in Phoenix. Okay. All right. And

JAMIE  7:30

I think you kind of touched on how it’s different but also why people may want to join or come in and live in X Denver, how they add ons. We’re gonna edit this part out, don’t worry. I think, yeah, I’ve kind of forgotten what I was gonna ask that. All right.

DENISE  7:56

Okay, let me talk about the lounge.

JAMIE  7:58

What’s in the lounge?

DENISE 8:00

Well, we have the social lounge where they can go in and enjoy the breakfast bar and smoothies and coffee. And then we’ll also offer a full dinner menu. Our amazing Executive Chef, Jason Jones will be on Jason Jones. Yes, we’ll be on staff with us. And he’s just got some amazing healthy options to bring to the table.

JAMIE  8:24

Okay, what are you most excited to engage with and bring to the people in the residence at extender.

DENISE  8:33

For myself, I’m most excited to educate, motivate, and inspire as many people to expand their understanding of wellness. You know, a lot of people understand physics. And in this day and age, a lot of people adapt mentally, but they forget there’s a whole other six components of wellness. And, you know, even telling people that financial wellness is a component of how they actually feel and they move around on a daily basis. Some people are just like, What do you mean? So, you know, having people to understand how to budget properly, how to invest, what stocks to go into, and things like that are so important for continuing to provide for them or you know, continue to excel throughout life.

JAMIE 9:13

Alright, so you mentioned your eight components of wellness, and you mentioned three in that that’s a sentence. So what are the other five?

DENISE  9:20

There are so we’ve got the physical, we’ve got social, we’ve got occupational, spiritual, we’ve got financial. Where am I? Five? Yeah, I’ve got five just trying to remember which ones I’ve said, right. I’m

JAMIE  9:39

putting you on the spot. Yeah, it’s

DENISE 9:41

I like to remember all of these right here right now. You can but right now it’s like

DENISE 10:15

I wrote them down, I could do it Okay, so we got physical, social, occupational, financial, that’s what I forgot environmental, spiritual, intellectual and emotional. Emotional wraps into mental.

JAMIE 10:36

So speaking on environmental issues, how is x Denver, being an environmental supporter?

DENISE  10:44

So one of the ways that we look to support our local Denver area is to get out and connect with the community and volunteer. So I’ve already connected with a lot of volunteer associations out in the local demo area and kind of set up a calendar of days of which we can go out and start supporting their organizations, or their organizations will come to us and we’ll create a project with

JAMIE  11:06

cool. How do you plan on finding people that are interested in X number?

DENISE  11:14

Coming on shows like yours, JB having Congress perfect thing, you know what we have to offer?

JAMIE 11:21

Yeah, yeah, I think a lot of people will be interested, just as it is so broad. How can people find out more about you?

DENISE  11:29

And from three spaces, most people will see it as your home, your work and your play. All in one,

JAMIE  11:39

you could say that, again.

DENISE  11:44

I said, the way I like to describe the extenders plan is instead of just getting that local, old community and an apartment building, you get your home, your work, and you can get to the play in only one area.

JAMIE 11:57

Nice. But I’m guessing like with a lot of people that have been working from home, or recently, there’s a lot of people that want to get out of that as well. You will also have the options to separate those if you want,

DENISE  12:10

right. So that’s why having the whole the whole 11th floor of our building, be dedicated straight to our co working space, where you can rent, meeting pods, phone booths, the conference rooms, to be able to get your work done, and then walk right over or head right up to the top floor and get a workout in, finish your workout walk right over to the cafe and either get a smoothie or a salad or something, and then head back downstairs to home.

JAMIE  12:34

And then you also have all the things in downtown Denver that are close by and where are you located? Again,

DENISE  12:39

we’re located at 3100 in history right next to the rocky stadium.

JAMIE  12:44

Okay, that’s what I was thinking. Perfect. So a question from our Facebook group. So last summer, there were lots of fires and poor air quality everywhere. So how would you help somebody with difficulty breathing or things like that? How are you helping the residents so that they can be able to be active and with bad air quality and fires, which might happen in the future, possibly every summer from now on

DENISE  13:11

our buildings, our building is equipped with effort. And we have two big spaces where we are going to be able to go either the gym or the fitness and be offering classes. So we’re hoping that you know, everything doesn’t happen like it did last summer. But if it does, we’re prepared to everything doors, and everyone’s

JAMIE 13:32

air filters and then working out inside. I mean, that’s what we did last year as well. I think the nice thing potentially is you know, socially it was a little bit difficult last summer because you couldn’t go out and hang out and things like that. But you guys would kind of have that covered with your, you know, your restaurants and inside hang outs and things like that, which would be nice. I have a house but I might come hang out there. This doesn’t sound too bad. Welcome. Yeah, sounds good. Is there anything else you’d like our listeners to know?

DENISE  14:00

We’re really excited to open we’re really excited to get the community’s support behind us and just how many people we can, you know, can enhance and help. So you know, if you have friends that are looking for a great apartment, it will or yourself looking for a great department, please don’t hesitate to hop over to x timber data.

JAMIE  14:19

Awesome. And anywhere else they can follow you on social media and anything like that. Everything so

DENISE  14:23

you can follow us at x life on Instagram and Facebook.

JAMIE  14:28

And that is the letter X then life Correct? Not like he X. Okay, letter X. All right. Perfect. Well, Jamie here with our show, and Denise Johnson, the wellness director with X, Denver and xCO letting you all know about the importance of health where you live, and how you might be able to get that with X Denver.
